Fame the Musical

DANVILLE Diamonds are set to shine brightly at the staging of the Fame – the Musical at The Milkwood Theatre in Durban North. The three-day run ends on Thursday, March 27.
Fame – The Musical, which follows two successful predecessors, the hit movie and television series, focuses on the last class to graduate from New York’s High School of Performing Arts on 46th Street before the school relocated to Lincoln Center. This musical will be showcased at Danville Park Girls’ High School, in the new state of the art theatre, The Milkwood Theatre, with a cast of 30, including the Danville Diamonds and young lads from neighbouring high schools. The shows begin at 19:00 and tickets can be purchased for R140 at Webtickets.

THE Pavilion Night Market heralds the onset of autumn this Saturday, March 29, with an offering of crafts, food, speciality buys and live music.
The event which supports micro-businesses and pop-up entrepreneurs promises a wide range of shopping, dining, and entertainment options for visitors and kiddies. It will be held in the undercover parking at the Pavilion Shopping Centre from 15:00 until 22:00.

The market will have over 30 stalls offering gift ideas, bespoke items, garments, jewellery, handmade crafts, décor items, vintage wares and toys. Delicious artisanal fare, street food, snacks, speciality dishes and desserts will be available for families to enjoy.
What’s more, there will be live music throughout the afternoon and evening. Featured acts include Many Moore, a three-piece acoustic pop jazz outfit from Pietermaritzburg, who perform urban poetic soul music influenced by Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, Norah Jones, and Bob Marley.

The Royal Ballet’s Swan Lake Comes to Durban Cinemas

Ballet enthusiasts are in for a treat as Swan Lake, performed by The Royal Ballet, graces the big screen at The Rhumbelow Theatre on Sunday March 30 at 14:00.
Filmed live at the Royal Opera House on April 24, 2024, this spellbinding production brings the timeless love story of Prince Siegfried and Odette to life. With Yasmine Naghdi in the iconic dual role of Odette / Odile and Matthew Ball as Prince Siegfried, the performance showcases the elegance, grace, and virtuosity that have made Swan Lake a cornerstone of classical ballet.
This production, a stunning reimagining of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov’s masterpiece by the late Liam Scarlett, features Tchaikovsky’s haunting score and breathtaking designs by John Macfarlane. Audiences will be captivated as Siegfried and Odette’s romance unfolds under the dark influence of Von Rothbart.
The venue opens 60 minutes before the screening for snacks and drinks, with a total running time of 2 hours and 45 minutes, including two intervals. Tickets are R175 per person, and food will be available at the venue. A bar will also be open, but patrons may not bring their own alcohol onto the premises. Limited secure parking is available, and booking is essential.

Experience the Magic of Steam at the March Running Day

Visitors are invited to join the magic of the steam with rides from Umgeni Railway Station on March 30.

Step back in time and enjoy a nostalgic steam train journey through the breathtaking Valley of 1000 Hills. On Sunday March 30, the Umgeni Steam Railway invites you to take a 75-minute scenic trip from Inchanga to Botha’s Hill and back.
The train departs from Inchanga Railway Station at 09:00, 11:30, and 14:00, offering a unique opportunity to soak in the charm of vintage rail travel.
Alongside the train rides, visitors can explore a vibrant craft market at Inchanga Station, open from 8:00 to 15:30, featuring handmade goods, delicious treats, and unique finds for the whole family.
